NGS Seminar Series, Summer 2012
The UK's National Grid Service (NGS) will be hosting a short online seminar series during the summer highlighting some of the services that the NGS provides for the wider e-infrastructure community including the European Grid Infrastructure.
The NGS will be hosting a short online seminar series at the end of June / early July highlighting some of the services that the NGS provides for the wider e-infrastructure community including the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI). The seminars are aimed at interested parties from the grid community and further afield. The seminars will be broadcast online on Wednesday mornings at 10.30am (BST) and will last for 30mins with an opportunity for questions. They will also be recorded and be available after the event.
Grid Accounting and APEL
20th June, Will Rogers, STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
This talk will give an overview of how accounting is done on the grid, and what it is used for. It will cover the NGS accounting system at a high level. It will then go into more detail about the implementation of APEL, the accounting system for EGI, including the particular challenges involved and the plans for development.
GOCDB, the NGS and EGI
27th June, John Casson, NGS, STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and David Meredith, NGS, STFC Daresbury Laboratory
This talk will cover a brief overview of the functionality provided by GOCDB, the official repository for storing and presenting EGI topology and resources information. The seminar will explain how it is used within the NGS, recent developments, useful features on the future roadmap and a chance to ask questions about the system. There will also be a short overview of how GOCDB is used in the context of the EGI project.
The Training Marketplace
4th July, Claire Devereux, NGS, STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
The Training Marketplace is a one-stop shop for training developed by STFC and the EGI-InSPIRE project. Here you will find information about classroom-based training courses and online training materials including a repository containing thousands of resources. You can also search for PhD or MSc courses, or for resources for trainers such as a Training CA. The Training Marketplace equally allows you to advertise and a freely available gadget enables you to customise and embed the Training marketplace in your own website. This seminar will talk you through the Training Marketplace and demonstrate how you can embed a customised version of a training calendar, map or repository in your own website.
How to take part
To join the seminar please use EVO which requires free registration. We recommend that you do this at least a day in advance of the seminar. To join the seminar, go directly to the seminar room.
The seminar will also be available through Access Grid. Using the Access Grid toolkit join the "VRVS - Urbis" Virtual Venue. If you are using IOCOM you'll find this Venue in the UK shared Venues drop-down list.
