Access to the EGI e-infrastructure is possible through a range of different service interfaces. This page provides information about science gateways, the most popular and most rapidly developing tools used by EGI communities to interact with the European Grid Infrastructure.
An EGI science gateway is a community-specific set of tools, applications, and data collections that are integrated together via a web portal or a desktop application, providing access to resources and services from the European Grid Infrastructure. These gateways can support a variety of capabilities including workflows, virtualisation software and hardware , visualization as well as resource discovery, job execution services, access to data collections, applications, and tools for data analysis. A science gateway enables community members to define and perform custom research scenarios or other types of use cases.
EGI science gateways are operated for research communities in Europe and their partners worldwide to simplify access and interaction with the resources and services of EGI.

Other e-infrastructures, such as XSEDE, also provide science gateway based access for users.
