Today, we are launching a&nbsp;2nd call for the <a href="https://www.egi.eu/about/egi-council/egi-strategic-and-innovation-fund/">EGI Strategic and Innovation Fund</a>. The Fund was established by the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.egi.eu/about/egi-council/">EGI Council</a> to stimulate targeted actions that bring benefits within the EGI Community in the short to medium term.
The 2nd call of the Strategic and Innovation Fund can be accessed by the <a href="https://www.egi.eu/about/egi-council/">EGI Council&nbsp;participants</a>&nbsp;and associated participants. Moreover, the call is open to all organisations based in countries represented in the EGI Council who receive a letter of support by EGI Council participants.
Project proposals should align with the vision, mission and strategy of the EGI Federation and create changes in the production environment or validate concepts that justify further investments.
The Fund accepts four types of project proposals that relate to the level of maturity of the proposed solution: Proof of Concept, Prototype, Major Innovation, and Patch (see&nbsp;<a href="https://www.egi.eu/about/egi-council/egi-strategic-and-innovation-fund/">description of projects</a>).
Applications should be submitted by 11 November 2018.
The first call of the <a href="https://www.egi.eu/about/egi-council/egi-strategic-and-innovation-fund/">EGI Strategic and Innovation Fund</a> ended earlier this year and resulted in the selection of two projects:
<ol>
<li>&#8220;Elastic Serverless Platform for High Throughput Computing Scientific Applications&#8221; (prototype category) &#8211; a project developed by the Technical University of Valencia, with a goal to create a prototype of an elastic serverless platform for High Throughput Computing Scientific Applications&nbsp;on top of the EGI Federated Cloud.</li>
<li>“Native OpenID Connect Implementation for OpenStack Cloudsc” – (major innovation category) &#8211; a project develop by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) that proposes to implement a native OpenID Connect plugin for OpenStack-based clouds to be certified by the OpenID Connect Foundation and available to providers of the EGI Federated Cloud.</li>
</ol>
