Interactive computing

Data analytics and visualisation with Jupyter Notebooks

A complete suite for your research

The Jupyter Notebooks are a web-based environment that facilitates research sharing and reproducibility according to the Open Science principles.

Key benefits

All in one place

Allows to combine code, rich text, images, videos, animations, mathematical equations, plots, maps, interactive figures and widgets, and graphical user interfaces, into a single document. Notebooks are offered with a grant, a quota of initial resources, which can be used to run data analytics and share results with other members working on the same experiment or project

Reproducible

Helps to conduct efficient and reproducible interactive computing experiments with ease. Fully compliant to support FAIR principles

Multi languages support

Provides support to Julia, Python, R, Octave libraries. Extended in order to allow MATLAB users to develop algorithms and use their code to perform data analysis on the EGI Federated Cloud infrastructure without having to change programming languages or environments

Community driven

Offers a custom set-up to scientific communities. Such customised instances can be hosted on special hardware (for example with fat nodes and GPUs), can offer special libraries, data import/export and user authentication system

Free access

Provides a predefined quota of resources (2 vCPU cores, 4GB of RAM, 20GB of persistent storage) for trial purposes which can be used for data analytics

EOSC service

Integrates the EGI Cloud Compute, EGI Online Storage services, and other EOSC-related services published in the EOSC Portal

Case study

D4Science

D4Science is an organisation that has been offering data infrastructure since 2014. The communities targeted by the D4Science Infrastructure comprise a number of research initiatives and innovative projects. With EGI’s collaboration, the communities supported by D4Science can benefit from a European-based Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI) that is integrated with a large number of research and academic institutions, to verify the digital identities of their users. This establishes a common AAI framework for the authorisation of resource use. EGI also enhances D4Science researchers with specialised data analysis solutions for advanced science through EGI Notebooks, which are managed and provided from European infrastructures that are close to the source datasets.
