Santander, Spain – June 2025
At EGI2025 in Santander’s Palacio de la Magdalena, we sat down with Tiziana Ferrari, Director of the EGI Foundation, to explore how international collaboration powers scientific breakthroughs. In this new video interview, Tiziana reveals how EGI’s global partnerships accelerate research far beyond European borders.
Supporting Science Without Boundaries
Tiziana emphasises EGI’s mission: enabling data-intensive computing for global scientific communities through research innovation, training, and technical support. "Collaborating means pooling capacity with data centres worldwide, from Europe to Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas," she notes. This model exemplifies how science unites nations.
The Structural Biology Community
The interview spotlights EGI’s structural biology community – 60,000+ researchers across 160 countries – whose COVID-19 pandemic work delivered critical treatment advances through partnerships with the United States and others. "This is how global infrastructure saves lives," Tiziana reflects.
The Future: Expanding EGI’s Global Footprint
Looking ahead, Tiziana envisions deeper international engagement: "We’ve built strong partnerships, but there’s more to do. With our Council members, we’ll expand collaborations to accelerate discoveries everywhere."
