DECIDO Final Event: Shaping the Future of Evidence-Based Policy Making

DECIDO concludes by showcasing tools and methodologies for evidence-based policymaking. EGI leads on EOSC Competence Centre for Public Authorities.

The Horizon 2020 project DECIDO final event, titled "DECIDO: Shaping the Future of Evidence-Informed Policy Making," took place on 22 February 2024 in Brussels. Participants from various sectors celebrated the project's completion and discussed the impact of its innovative methodologies, tools, and data on shaping evidence-based policies for public authorities.

The event provided a platform for policy makers, government representatives, IT professionals, aid organisation members, and citizens interested in evidence-based policymaking to engage in discussions and share experiences. Sessions included discussions on citizens' engagement, the DECIDO Portal, and leveraging the EOSC ecosystem for policy-making.

From EGI Foundation, Fotis Karayannis and Xavier Salazar talked in sessions focusing on challenges, results, and bridging innovations, contributing to the exchange of ideas and insights among experts in the field. In particular, Fotis Karayannis presented the work done by the DECIDO project to bridge the Public Authorities world with EOSC, and introduced the DECIDO-EOSC incubating Competence Centre for Public Authorities, along with a proposed roadmap on becoming a thematic EU node in the new EOSC node-based ecosystem. Xavier Salazar then entered into the details of the engagement  model with the Collaboration and Community charters for institutions and individuals accordingly, along with the phases of the roadmap and the interactions with other key players, based on the outcomes of the review of the state-of-the-art in the area. EGI Foundation colleague Elisa Cauhé also presented EOSC DIH and the important role Digital Innovation Hubs can play in engaging the private sector, facing similar sustainability challenges and opportunities for the future. Other EGI projects in the room included AI4PublicPolicy and GREAT

The DECIDO project: Challenges and Results

The overall aim of the DECIDO project was to enable public administrations to take full advantage of the data, tools & services available through EOSC.  In order to do this, DECIDO project has generated 4 Key Exploitable Results: the DECIDO Approach for Evidence-Based Policy Making, the DECIDO Portal, the Co-Creation Methodology and the DECIDO-EOSC Competence Centre for PAs and Policy Makers. Those results were co-designed with the development of 4 use cases: Pilot on Forest fire evacuation in Kajaani, Finland , 3 Emergency Areas selected in Torino, Italy: Floods, Food distribution and Ukrainian refugees, a Pilot on Power Outage on the island of Halki, Greece and a Pilot on Wildfires in the Aragon Region in Spain.

The DECIDO-EOSC Competence Centre

EGI has contributed to identify the services, tools and data made available by EOSC in order to better address the specific needs of public authorities, provisioning the cloud-based infrastructure for supporting policy making from the DECIDO portal. EGI has also contributed to the exploitation and dissemination of project results, and will spearhead the establishment of the DECIDO-EOSC Competence Centre for the support of data-driven evidence-based policy making.

If you want to follow the final project outputs, keep an eye on the project website.

EGI will continue to work on the EOSC Competence Centre for Public Authorities. Very soon you will hear more about this! Keep an eye on the DECIDO project page on our website.
