EGI at the BDVA Summit in Valencia

Updated 01/12/2016
Blog posted on behalf of our colleague Roberta Piscitelli who attended the BDVA Summit in Valencia.   Last week, I attended the BDVA Summit 2016 in Valencia. The summit had over 350 attendees from Industry, Academia, Public Administration, data owners and users in the Big Data Ecosystem. EGI was a sponsor of the event and our director Yannick Legré presented the EGI federation and its keys assets in a plenary talk. Yannick presented our perspective for future actions linked to the development of Earth Observation exploitation platforms and links to Copernicus, and how private actors like industry and SMEs can engage with EGI in the contest of the European Open Science Cloud. The summit was a key occasion to meet and network with Big Data players in Europe, especially in the in the Earth Observation domain. I had the opportunity to follow a session on big data and space organised by Terrasigna and hear presentations by Gunther Landgraf (ESA), Martina Sindelar (DG GROW ), Gilles Ollier (DG-RTD) and Geoff Sawyer (EARSC). The talks inspired a discussion on how to connect with all the various initiatives and how to join forces together to tackle the respective challenges in the actual context. The summit also gave the opportunity to provide feedback to the draft update of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda priorities for the future H2020 program.
