Building Bridges for Research Computing: EGI and C-DAC Formalise Cooperation Through New MoU

We’re very pleased to announce the newly established Memorandum of Understanding with C-DAC, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing in Pune, India.
About C-DAC
C-DAC is a premier research and development organisation under India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It designs, develops, and deploys electronic technologies, ICT solutions, and applications for socio‑economic advancement, evolving technology solutions, architectures, systems, and standards for nationally important challenges.
C-DAC works across multiple areas of ICT and electronics, including High Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud and Grid Computing and their applications; Disaster Management; Life Sciences; Weather and Climate; Geoinformatics; Multilingual computing; Professional Electronics; Software Technologies (including turnkey solutions for Governance, Societal Applications, Telecom, Finance, Power, Health, etc.); Cyber Security (including data security and cyber forensics); and Education and Training in high‑end computing.
The Scope of the Collaboration
EGI and C-DAC will cooperate on research and development projects and pursue closer scientific and technological collaboration in hardware and applications for HPC and AI, and in the design, integration, and management of supercomputing facilities:
- Identify research communities, projects, and scientific priorities of common interest, to co‑design, technically support, pilot, validate, and deploy advanced compute and data‑management solutions that address the need for access to distributed data and facilities in the C-DAC and EGI Federation ecosystems.
- Establish technical and policy interoperability between both infrastructures, including federated authentication, cross‑infrastructure resource discovery, and operational alignment, to enable research communities to seamlessly access compute and data resources from both C-DAC and EGI.
- Carry out collaborative R&D and scientific cooperation in Cloud, HTC, HPC, AI, data processing and analytics tools, and supercomputing, with initial application focus on Climate Change and Earth Sciences, Life Sciences and Bioinformatics, Natural Hazards and Disaster Management, and Physics and Astronomy.
- Exchange knowledge and support dissemination, including participation in flagship events and joint sessions, workshops, and training activities.
- Coordinate efforts for future funding opportunities, including joint participation in Horizon Europe, the EU-India ICT Work Programme, and national funding programmes in India and Europe.
The MoU was signed during EGI2026, where we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Manoj Khare and Dr Vinod Jani, who joined the “Computing for Science: International Perspectives” session and brought valuable contributions and insights to the discussion.

“This MoU with C-DAC marks an important step in strengthening ties between European and Indian research infrastructures”, says Tiziana Ferrari, EGI Foundation’s Director. “By combining EGI’s federation model with C-DAC’s expertise in HPC, AI, and supercomputing, we will enable researchers on both sides to access distributed compute and data resources more easily, and to tackle shared challenges in climate, life sciences, disaster management, and fundamental physics. We are grateful to Dr Khare and Dr Jani for their engagement at EGI2026, and we look forward to turning this framework into concrete joint projects and training activities in the coming years.”
We look forward to a fruitful collaboration!
