EOSC Mesh

About EOSC Mesh
EOSC Mesh will contribute to the development of the European Open Science Cloud by establishing a distributed network of seven interoperable EOSC Nodes: three e-infra Nodes (EGI, EUDAT and Scholarly Communication) and four thematic Nodes (ENVRI Cluster, SSHOC Cluster, BBMRI and CERN) covering environmental sciences, social sciences and humanities, life sciences, and high-energy physics.
Together, the Nodes will form the EOSC Mesh Hub, a distributed hub within the wider EOSC Federation. The Hub will provide a catalogue of 25 Core, Generic and Thematic Federating Capabilities, enabling researchers and research infrastructures to discover, access, process and reuse data, services, software, workflows and other research outputs across organisational and national boundaries.
EOSC Mesh will validate its approach through seven scientific use cases in environmental science, health, social sciences and humanities, and multidisciplinary research. They will demonstrate how researchers can combine data and services from different Nodes to address complex scientific and societal challenges.
EGI Foundation role in the project
EGI Foundation is a central technical and coordinating partner in EOSC Mesh. Through the operation of the EGI EOSC Node, EGI will contribute the distributed computing, storage, data management, and federating capabilities required to connect research infrastructures and services across the EOSC Federation.
EGI will provide a broad portfolio of generic research services and also lead or contribute to several Core Federating Capabilities for the EOSC Mesh Hub.
EGI will support the technical integration of the seven EOSC Mesh Nodes and their interoperability with the EOSC EU Node and other EOSC Nodes. It will contribute to the design and implementation of common interfaces, connectors, service-management processes, monitoring, accounting and security coordination mechanisms.
Expected results
EOSC Mesh is expected to deliver the following main results:
- Operational EOSC Mesh Hub
- Federating Capabilities catalogue
- EOSC Node Operator Framework
- Federated Service Management System
Relevance for EGI
- Establish EGI as a core horizontal Node and technical backbone
- Strengthen EGI’s position in the EOSC Federation
- Expand uptake of EGI services and community reach
- Advance EGI’s technical roadmap and sustainability
