EGI joins CESGA in celebrating their milestone: the new quantum computer Qmio

CESGA qmio

Funded by the autonomous government of Galicia with an investment of 13.9 million euros, Qmio quantum computer will be open to all academic and business sectors. It will also support positioning the region for cutting-edge innovation and research.

As highlighted during the launch, which took place on October 2, 2023, the new quantum computer will enable companies, technology centres, and research groups to improve their competitiveness and productivity by accessing a wide variety of applications that will transform their processes and enhance their investment strategies. The three universities in Galicia also launched the first edition of the quantum master's programme to support skills and knowledge creation in the field.

Fujitsu is the winner of the quantum computer procurement; the MoU includes using various complementary infrastructures and a collaboration plan that incorporates establishing the international centre of excellence in quantum technologies in Galicia.

This achievement of CESGA enriches the EGI Federation and opens new horizons in how we can further support our community.

CESGA is a public foundation supported by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) and by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
