FLUID-AI aims to revolutionise the EOSC ecosystem by introducing the concept of Data and Models
FLUID-AI4EOSC Project Officially Launched: Advancing Models and Data Liquidity Within the EOSC

We are thrilled to announce the official start of FLUID-AI4EOSC, a new Horizon Europe project that will bridge critical interoperability gaps between research data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) models, and Research Infrastructures across the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) ecosystem.
The FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) have significantly advanced research data management. However, scientific discovery increasingly relies on AI and ML workflows that require assets that are systematically structured, richly annotated, and technically optimised for automated execution. To meet these challenges, and aligned with the broader EOSC objectives and its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, FLUID-AI4EOSC introduces the idea of Data and Models Liquidity. The objective of this novel concept is to extend the FAIR principles to ensure that both models and data flow effortlessly, securely, and seamlessly across diverse platforms and scientific domains.
FLUID-AI4EOSC addresses identified bottlenecks in the European research ecosystem through three primary action pillars:
- Establishing a collaborative Competence Centre on AI/ML, in order to provide coordinated training, expert support, and practical resources for researchers and operators.
- Implementing unified semantic and technical interoperability standards to enable frictionless discovery, combination, and reuse of data and models across scientific domains;
- Delivering an accessible and intuitive Scientific AI DataLab that reduces computational complexity, allowing domain scientists to focus directly on scientific discovery.
To ensure its solutions are scalable, reproducible, and grounded in real research environments, FLUID-AI4EOSC will validate across eight real-world use cases drawn from representative European Research Infrastructures.
The project aligns closely with the overarching AI4EOSC initiative, where FLUID-AI4EOSC will build on top and extend the Scientific AI DataLab successfully established by AI4EOSC. This environment will be expanded by introducing deeper semantic and technical interoperability, incorporating the notion of data and models liquidity within the AI/ML lifecycle, and establishing a dedicated AI/ML Competence Centre within the EOSC. The project has already established synergies with sister project EOSC-ARENA, which focuses on generative and agentic AI; and with GenAI4Earth, which will bring specific generative AI applications for Earth Sciences. This collective endeavour will enhance and scale the AI4EOSC Scientific AI DataLab capabilities to serve the next generation of data- and model-driven science across Europe.
