TANGO Advances Trusted Data-Sharing Solutions for Europe’s Digital Future

TANGO, the project that aimed to develop digital solutions and data governance frameworks to ensure data sovereignty, trust, transparency, and environmental sustainability in the digital economy, concluded in August 2025 and recently completed a successful review of its activities.
TANGO delivered seven pilot projects and worked around these pillars:

  • Trustworthy, accountable and privacy-preserving data-sharing technologies and platforms.
  • Data governance models and frameworks supporting data sovereignty and compliance (e.g. GDPR).
  • Improved data availability, quality and interoperability across domains and sectors.
  • Energy consumption optimisation at the infrastructure, application and AI inference level to support green digital operations.

The review report highlights TANGO’s achievements over the three-year project period and demonstrates the impact of its outcomes.
In fact, TANGO successfully delivered key components that advance the European single market for data and support the development of trustworthy AI ecosystems, fully compatible with major data-sharing and data-space initiatives. By integrating enhanced functionality to enable reliable, privacy-preserving data exchange within existing solutions, TANGO helped unlock data silos across Europe in a secure, energy-efficient, and privacy-conscious way, reinforcing Europe’s data economy.
The project adopted and extended state-of-the-art technologies for Data Spaces, ensuring interoperability and preserving data sovereignty while demonstrating European excellence in this domain.
Moreover, TANGO promoted the adoption of interoperable data spaces to boost economic value creation across Europe. By enabling seamless cross-sector data exchange, the project laid the groundwork for enhanced innovation, productivity, and competitiveness at the European level.
Additionally, TANGO produced White Papers addressing critical policy and regulatory aspects of data spaces and distributed infrastructures. EGI Foundation led the work to prepare those on Data Sovereignty and Data Intermediation Services.
Although not a technical partner on the project, EGI benefited from its involvement in TANGO to advance the Federation’s knowledge of self-sovereign Identity Management.
