GeoGPT: Transforming Earth Science with Open and Ethical AI

About the webinar
Artificial intelligence is entering a new geological age — and GeoGPT is leading the way.
Developed by Zhejiang Lab, China, and inspired by the Deep-time Digital Earth (DDE) International Science Initiative, GeoGPT is the world’s first foundational large language model (LLM) system built specifically for the global Earth science community.
This webinar, presented by Dr. Grant Boquet (Zhijiang Lab), will introduce how GeoGPT is redefining how researchers interact with geoscientific data, literature, and maps — enabling new discoveries through open, transparent, and ethically governed AI.
Discover how GeoGPT:
- Builds on open-source LLMs (Llama, Qwen, Mixtral, DeepSeek) to deliver multi-modal reasoning across text, maps, and data;
- Follows FAIR principles and a global open-science model, ensuring transparency, trust, and independence from commercial or political influence;
- Empowers scientists with features like Map Chat (“making maps talk”) and Reader & Extractor (“making papers speak”) to accelerate insights;
-Enables personalized research through My GeoGPT, where users create their own AI-assisted scientific knowledge base.
Target Audience
Whether you are a geoscientist, data specialist, or infrastructure provider curious about how large language models can power the next wave of Earth intelligence, this session will offer both inspiration and practical perspectives.
