Coordination and Support Action for the Future engagement model for the EOSC Federation

Project Coordinated by the EOSC Association

The goal of EOSC United is to anchor and unite the European research community in the EOSC Federation, to boost its establishment and growth by leveraging the EOSC EU Node resources and blueprints.

EOSC United will support the European Commission and the EOSC EU Node contractors to increase the uptake of the EOSC EU Node resources, by promoting the EOSC EU Node offering to researchers (via multipliers) and to contributors (including repositories, research infrastructures, technology and infrastructure providers, software developers and IT professionals, industry partners and the other EOSC Nodes and data.

EGI Foundation Role in the Project

The EGI Foundation plays a multi-faceted role across work packages.

Task 2.1 Growing the EOSC EU Node adoption: Increase awareness and validate the EOSC EU Node through diverse use cases. This includes collaborating on cascading grants with the EOSC Gravity project to fund proposals focused on the Node. Lessons learned will provide feedback to improve the Node’s roadmap.
Task 3.4 Technical (EOSC Federation): Ensure the EOSC Federation’s technical architecture and AAI are evolved and validated using stakeholder input. The output includes prioritised requirements and contributions of technical guidelines to the EOSC Federation Handbook.
Minor involvement in T4.3 Synergies and Engagement with Data Spaces and T5.1 Technical project management.

Relevance for EGI:

The EOSC United project is highly relevant to the EGI Foundation as it directly builds upon our central role in the EOSC ecosystem. Our current leadership in coordinating the EOSC Beyond and EOSC Data Commons projects, combined with our direct expertise in the EOSC EU Node’s procurement and operation, uniquely positions us. This allows EGI to further extend its work on federating e-infrastructure and developing the EOSC Federation Handbook, ensuring continuity and impact within EOSC United.

Expected Results:

The project focuses on three main objectives:

Foster the uptake and evolution of the EOSC EU Node: The project aims to demonstrate the added value of the EOSC Federation, promote its offerings, and identify gaps to enhance and evolve the EOSC EU Node.
Drive standardisation for the EOSC Federation: EOSC United supports the development of an enhanced operation framework and the stimulation of synergies between the EOSC Federation and other Common European Data Spaces to allow better data reusability and exploitation.
Grow the participation in the EOSC Federation: The project strives to support the growth of the EOSC Federation, including through EOSC-A Members, and reinforce the commitment to EOSC in the next EU Framework Programme.
