This publication sets out EGI’s strategy for evolving Europe’s research infrastructure into a federated, AI-ready compute–data continuum by 2030.
It explains how EGI will respond to major shifts in European research, including the rise of AI in science, growing demand for cross-domain digital services, new requirements around digital sovereignty, and the need to strengthen workforce capacity in research infrastructure.
The strategy defines three value streams: 1) Powering the Federation, 2) Enabling Scientific Computing, and 3) Enabling Sustained Innovation, and shows how they are delivered through three strategic pillars: 1) a Sovereign Compute–Data Federation, 2) Incentivised Cross-Border Access, and a 3) Resilient Innovation Ecosystem.
Together, these elements describe how EGI will connect infrastructure, policy, and innovation across Europe to enable more open, scalable, and collaborative research.
