A highlight of the symposium was the presentation by Tiziana Ferrari, Director of the EGI Foundation, titled “Advanced Computing Needs of Data-Intensive Science: EGI Response and Its Contribution to EOSC.”
Her talk showcased how the EGI Federation, Europe’s largest federated digital infrastructure, is addressing the challenges of data-intensive science by providing advanced computing, AI-driven services, and international collaboration. She highlighted EGI’s contributions to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and global open science, with examples such as WeNMR and the CoastPredict initiative. The message was clear: the future of science depends on AI, advanced computing, and global collaboration. The full presentation is available on Zenodo.
The symposium concluded with a forward-looking discussion on the future of GOSC. A White Paper is now in preparation, envisioning the transition “from Open Science to Open Partnership.” It calls for stronger international cooperation, inclusiveness, and sustainability. EGI, together with CNIC (Computer Network Information Center, CAS) and CBAS (International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals), reaffirmed their commitment to sustain global cooperation and support international science—even in a global climate that does not always favour intercontinental efforts.
