EGI Joined the RIFF Thematic Summit on Health & Food, Environment, and Data, Computing & Digital Research Infrastructures

On 15-16 June 2026, EGI had the opportunity to participate in the RIFF Thematic Summit on Health & Food, Environment, and Data, Computing & Digital Research Infrastructures.

RIFF (Research Infrastructures for the Future of Ukraine) is an EU-funded project that facilitates an upgrade of the Research and Innovation system in Ukraine by offering a forward-looking perspective on the Ukrainian research infrastructures RIs to mitigate long-standing challenges in the area.

The event gathered participants from several Ukrainian institutions and focused on opportunities for integrating Ukrainian capacities into European research infrastructures and on enabling Ukrainian scientists to use European research infrastructures.

The session on Digital Research Infrastructures (DIGIT) brought together representatives from EuroHPC, ESFRI, EOSC, and EGI to highlight collaboration opportunities and existing initiatives available to Ukrainian researchers. Discussions with the participants emphasised that active Ukrainian involvement in European high-performance computing centres and EOSC is crucial. Participants agreed that Ukrainian institutions should engage in EU training and educational programmes centred on the development and management of research infrastructures to better align research in digital fields. Moreover, leveraging Ukraine’s status as an associated member of Horizon Europe would enable its researchers to access European digital research infrastructures remotely, fostering the upgrade of a Ukrainian ecosystem in line with Europe's open science state of the art.

EGI supports the efforts of its Ukrainian partners and is actively facilitating the integration of national services, such as DataverseUA, with EOSC; the services will be onboarded in the EGI EOSC Node.
