Day 2 of the EGI2025 Conference in Santander was rich with insight, innovation, and lively exchange. From scientific plenaries to hands-on training, the day reflected the growing impact of federated digital infrastructure on science and society.
EGI2025 – Day 2 Highlights

The day opened with a packed plenary focused on AI in aquatic science, showcasing the achievements of the iMagine project. With over 80 attendees, the session explored how AI services are being built, validated, and shared to support marine and freshwater research - and how these efforts can extend beyond aquatic domains.
Throughout the day, parallel sessions tackled some of today’s most pressing research infrastructure challenges:
- Sensitive data and security, including trusted computing solutions and risk management strategies;
- Big data infrastructures and platforms for digital twins, Earth observation, and open web search;
- AI and EOSC, with presentations on federated learning, model deployment, and evaluation frameworks;
- EOSC services and nodes, exploring sustainability, legal frameworks, and future development paths;
- Identity and Access Management, with insights into EGI Check-in, Helmholtz ID, and the BBMRI Negotiator.
The community also came together around software and training:
- Sessions on software quality highlighted best practices in open source development;
- A practical Check-in training introduced new features and integration options;
- And a technical session on the compute continuum explored how cloud, HPC, and edge systems are increasingly connected to meet diverse research needs.
A dedicated poster session, featuring 29 contributions, gave participants the opportunity to explore emerging tools, projects, and research collaborations in a more interactive setting.
The day closed with a festive conference dinner at the Casino de Santander, offering spectacular views and the perfect backdrop for continued networking and conversation.
With new ideas, collaborations, and technologies shared across every session, Day 2 was a strong reflection of the EGI community's energy and ambition to drive open, impactful science forward.
