EUHubs4Data: it’s a wrap!

EUHubs4Data was launched in late 2020 to bring together Data Driven Innovation Hubs across Europe. The aim was to establish this federation as the European reference for data-driven innovation and experimentation. EGI was one of the 12 Data Driven Innovation Hubs that initiated the project.

Over a period of three and a half years, EUHubs4Data facilitated collaboration among data-driven initiatives in Europe, federated solutions in a global common catalogue of data services, datasets and trainings and shared data on a cross-border and cross-sector basis.

EGI played a pivotal role in the project, contributing its services and expertise in various ways. The services provided by the EGI Federation, such as EGI Online Storage, EGI Cloud Compute, EGI DataHub, EGI Notebooks, FiTSM training and the DEEP AI Platform, were included in the service catalogue, empowering SMEs to perform their innovation projects funded during 3 Open Calls. EGI's support extended to 6 cross-border experiments, from IOT for cybersecurity to long-range drones for power line inspection to AI/ML applied to urban environment monitoring risk analysis, demonstrating the breadth and depth of our involvement.

EGI led the activities for federating data sources and datasets to create the EUHubs4Data Datasets Catalogue. It also extended the EGI DataHub service to use the IDS Framework, which was adopted in the project to achieve interoperability in the Federation, creating a secure and trusted environment where all the Federation participants can exchange data. Additionally, EGI actively participated in several activities across the project, such as federation model development, DIH and private sector community building, training programmes, and driving the project's online presence. Also, EGI facilitated stakeholder engagement with the EOSC DIH to foster strategic alignment across the different ecosystems and communities.

BDVA will now support the i-Space Federation endeavour, acting as a Federator Entity and hosting the Federated Catalogue.

During EUHubs4Data, EGI has been labelled as a Gold BDVA iSpace for the next two years for the second time. Now that the project has successfully concluded, EGI will continue its commitment to high standards for data innovation.
