Destination Earth: Building a highly accurate digital twin of the Earth
Can you explain what Destination Earth does?
Destination Earth (DestinE) is a flagship initiative of the European Commission to develop a highly accurate digital twin of the Earth to model, monitor and simulate natural phenomena, hazards and related human activities. These groundbreaking features assist users in designing accurate and actionable adaptation strategies and mitigation measures.
What is the relationship with EGI?
EGI is heavily involved in other digital twin activities, such as interTwin, as well as being a flagship organisation for the advancement of computing capabilities, which is an important enabler for DestinE. Many of the scientific and research domains that DestinE aims to reach out to are enabled by EGI.
Why do you think it’s important to be at EGI2024?
Destination Earth (DestinE) is excited to participate in EGI2024, where we will showcase our cutting-edge work in creating high-precision digital twins of the Earth. This event is crucial for DestinE to connect with Europe’s leading experts in distributed computing, data management, and high-performance computing, which are essential to our mission. We will foster collaboration, leverage emerging technologies, and promote data accessibility, all while aligning with key European initiatives. Join us as we explore opportunities to advance environmental forecasting and decision-making.
What can people expect when they come to your booth?
You will find us waiting to talk about the exciting opportunities within the DestinE community and how to get involved thanks to the many opportunities for the community, such as funding opportunities for projects and use cases, sharing feedback and future needs, and communities of practice for knowledge sharing, along with a roll-up banner and plenty of gadgets.
Can delegates see DestinE in other sessions/demonstrations/workshops/posters?
Yes, we will be involved in the pitching session on Tuesday.
