EGI2025 LIP

Get to know the exhibitors at EGI2025 in this series of interviews, and meet us in Santander, Spain from 3-5 June 2025! Today, we spotlight the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP).

LIP: Empowering Science Through Advanced Computing

Can you explain what LIP does?

LIP - Laboratory of Instrumentation and Particle Physics is a Portuguese research institute dedicated to experimental particle physics and related fields. The Computing Group at LIP designs, operates, and supports advanced digital infrastructures, enabling compute and data-intensive science nationally and internationally. We provide expertise in high-performance computing, cloud, data management, and software quality for major scientific collaborations.

What is the relationship with EGI?

LIP is a long-standing EGI partner, contributing to software provisioning, infrastructure services, and SQA initiatives. We are active in most of the EGI-related projects and infrastructures.

Why do you think it’s important to be at EGI2025?

EGI2025 is a key opportunity to engage with the European research infrastructure community, showcase our capabilities, and foster new collaborations. As a technical backbone of national infrastructures and contributor to European efforts, LIP values this platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and alignment with EGI’s evolving roadmap.

What can people expect when they come to your booth?

Visitors can explore LIP’s advanced computing services and tools, including solutions for distributed computing, research data management, containerised workflows, and software quality assurance. We’re happy to discuss collaborations and provide insights into our national and European projects.

Can delegates see your organisation in other sessions/demonstrations/workshops/posters?

Yes. LIP members are involved in some sessions of the EGI2025 programme, such as the SQA session Wednesday afternoon.
