News from CSIRT, EGI’s Computer Security Incident Response Team

The EGI Computer Security and Incident Response Team (CSIRT) is actively engaged in international events and training initiatives to enhance security expertise across research computing infrastructures.

EGI CSIRT coordinates operational security activities within the EGI Infrastructure to deliver a secure and stable environment, giving scientists and researchers the protection and confidence they need to safely and effectively conduct their research. By continuously improving security measures and staying ahead of emerging threats, EGI CSIRT ensures the integrity and reliability of the infrastructure, which is essential for enabling high-impact scientific collaboration and discovery. Here are some key updates:

EGI CSIRT at ISGC 2025

This week, the International Symposium on Grids and Clouds (ISGC 2025) is taking place in Taipei. Sven Gabriel is leading a security workshop on Security Aspects of Federated Identity Management (session details) and presenting a talk on IT Security Risk Management (presentation details). The slides are available via Indico.

Hands-on Incident Response and Forensics Workshop

The CERN Computer Security Team is organizing a Hands-on Incident Response and Forensics workshop at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, on 29-30 September 2025. This workshop is designed for system administrators (sysadmins) and security professionals involved in the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) and the broader research and education (R&E) community. Participants will gain practical skills in incident response and digital forensics, using open-source tools. The program includes a mix of tabletop exercises and hands-on activities.

Due to limited space, early registration is encouraged (register here).

Thematic CERN School of Computing on Security 2025

The EGI CSIRT will participate in the Thematic CERN School of Computing on Security, taking place in Abingdon from 6-12 April 2025 (event page). The school will focus on the security of research computing infrastructures, covering topics such as risk management, security operations, identity and access management, cloud and container security, computer forensics, security monitoring, and incident response. The program includes lectures, tabletop exercises, and hands-on labs.

Stay tuned for more updates from the EGI CSIRT Group as we continue to strengthen security across distributed infrastructures!
