DSSC
The DSSC 2 project delivers the core coordination, interoperability framework, and federated tools necessary to scale the Common European Data Spaces into a sustainable, production-ready ecosystem. Building on the foundational guidelines of its predecessor, the initiative drives the practical adoption of secure, cross-sector data sharing for public administrations and SMEs across Europe. DSSC 2 focuses on accelerating individual data space initiatives toward business viability through targeted technical coaching, standardising common building blocks, and managing a centralised knowledge hub for best practices. By operating a dedicated Data and AI Observatory, the project ensures seamless alignment with strategic AI infrastructures, effectively translating European data governance policy into accessible, high-impact services for the digital marketplace.
EGI Foundation role in the project:
EGI will act as the orchestrator of the research sector, establishing a connection with the EOSC, and helping to connect research communities with the European Data Spaces ecosystem. Sector orchestrators are expected to evangelise DSSC solutions developed in the support operations for individual Common European Data Spaces or their ecosystems, to maximise consistency between Common European Data Spaces, reuse of solutions and economies of scale.

- The project transitions data spaces from experimental design to fully operational, business-viable, and sustainable ecosystems.
- High-quality, trusted data is made readily available for AI innovation by connecting European data spaces directly with AI Factories and Data Labs.
- Initiatives avoid reinventing the wheel by utilizing a single, updated blueprint of technical, legal, and governance building blocks.
- Industry silos are broken down across 14 key sectors through the hands-on guidance of expert Sector Orchestrators and Value Coaches.
- Best practices and success stories are scaled Europe-wide via an expanded, centralized digital knowledge platform and interactive tools.
- Secure cross-border and cross-market data sharing is accelerated by simplifying complex regulatory and technical processes.

DSSC2 strengthens EGI’s role in shaping the future of European research data ecosystems, enabling EGI to represent the needs of the scientific community in cross-sector data space developments.
