EGI and RedCLARA Strengthen EU-Latin America Cooperation Through a New Memorandum of Understanding

We are pleased to announce the signing of a new MoU between the EGI Foundation and RedCLARA, the regional advanced network organisation connecting research and education communities across Latin America.
The agreement establishes a framework for strategic and technical collaboration to strengthen digital infrastructure, advanced computing, and data-intensive research services for scientific and academic communities in Latin America and Europe.
About RedCLARA
RedCLARA, or Cooperación Latino Americana de Redes Avanzadas, is a non-profit international association. As the regional e-Infrastructure organisation for Latin America, RedCLARA interconnects National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) and operates a high-capacity advanced digital network dedicated to research, innovation, and education.
RedCLARA connects thousands of academic and scientific institutions across the region and plays an important role in enabling digital cooperation between Latin America and Europe. Through initiatives such as BELLA II (the Building the Europe Link with Latin America and the Caribbean project), it contributes to the development of direct transatlantic connectivity and high-speed data transmission for scientific collaboration.
In addition to its networking activities, RedCLARA coordinates regional digital capabilities including federated authentication and authorisation infrastructures, High-Performance Computing (HPC) networks, cloud services, and interactive data analytics platforms.
A Framework for Technical Collaboration
Through this MoU, EGI and RedCLARA will work together to improve access to advanced computing and data services across both regions. The initial collaboration will focus on:
- Integrating RedCLARA’s federated Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI) with EGI Check-in.
- Deploying EGI Notebooks on RedCLARA-connected resources.
- Establishing federated access to RedCLARA HPC and High-Throughput Computing (HTC) resources.
- Evaluating RedCLARA’s integration into the EGI Federation.
- Developing interoperable technical solutions for secure access to computing and data resources.
- Coordinating user onboarding, training, workshops, and outreach activities for researchers, technical experts, and computing-centre managers.
The collaboration will also support joint research and development activities. EGI and RedCLARA will identify priority research communities and Virtual Organisations with shared EU-Latin America interests, particularly in high-energy and particle physics, astronomy, biodiversity, health sciences, and multidisciplinary physics research.

The partnership will help create a more seamless environment in which researchers can discover and access computing, storage, data-management, and analytics services across regional infrastructure boundaries. It will also promote knowledge exchange and capacity building through joint events, technical sessions, webinars, and training activities.
“With this MoU, we are strengthening the connected and collaborative research infrastructure landscape across Europe and Latin America. By linking RedCLARA’s advanced regional network with EGI’s federated services, we can help researchers access the computing, data, and expertise they need, regardless of where resources are located”, says Tiziana Ferrari, EGI Foundation’s Director. “We look forward to working together on technical integration, community engagement, training, and new opportunities for joint research.”
