The EGI Node moved into production, making compute, storage, data management and digital research services
EGI Node Signs MoU to Shape Operational Future of EOSC Federation

The EGI Foundation has officially signed the EOSC Federation’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during EGI2026 in Ghent on 23 September 2026.
This marks a pivotal transition from observer status to full membership in the Federation's interim governance. EGI joins 13 other Nodes to help establish the technical, operational, and organisational frameworks of a production-grade European Open Science Cloud.
Through this agreement, the EGI Node reinforces its commitment to advancing large-scale, interdisciplinary data exploitation across Europe. By integrating distributed compute and storage, workflow automation, and AI/ML model deployment across research infrastructures, EGI provides the robust digital backbone data-intensive science requires.
Moving into Production and What's Next
This MoU signing comes hand in hand with a major operational milestone: the EGI Node is officially entering production. Researchers can now leverage EGI’s scalable compute and federated AI capabilities, such as AI model validation on sensitive health data and cross-Node ML workflows, to drive borderless scientific discovery.

The formal launch of the operational EOSC Federation will be celebrated during the EOSC Symposium 2026 in Florence (14–16 October). EGI Foundation experts will be on-site, leading sessions on federating capabilities, business models, and Data Spaces.
