Meet the EGI2026 Exhibitors: ANERIS

Get to know the exhibitors at EGI2026 in this series of interviews, and meet us in Ghent, Belgium from 21-25 September 2026! Today, we spotlight ANERIS and their shared booth.
ANERIS: Towards a network of Operational Marine Biology
Can you explain what your organisation does?
ANERIS is an EU-funded project that aims to aid the protection of marine and coastal biodiversity through technological, scientific and methodological innovation in the fields of marine life sensing and monitoring.
In order to do that, we are building the next generation of marine-sensing instruments and infrastructure for systematic routine measurements and monitoring of oceanic and coastal life and their rapid interpretation & dissemination to all interested stakeholders.
Through involving academia, industry, governments, and civil society, ANERIS proposes the concept of Operational Marine Biology (OMB) to provide faster, higher-quality, reliable and accessible marine and coastal life data using novel technology.
What is the relationship with EGI?
EGI takes part in the project as a contributing partner, involved in case studies for marine life monitoring in RI observatories and merging imaging and genomic information in different monitoring scenarios. EGI also brings its expertise into the co-development of cyberinfrastructure and deployment of ANERIS technologies in different RIs to scale up the FAIR data management and dissemination pipelines of OMB data products.
Why is it important to be at EGI2026?
By presenting at EGI 2026, ANERIS moves closer to making "Operational Marine Biology" a reality. By showcasing how advanced computing can make ocean monitoring as routine and automated as daily weather forecasting, they help secure the future of marine biodiversity conservation. The project can showcase how massive scientific datasets and community-driven citizen science data are merged, harmonised and processed seamlessly over the cloud.
What can people expect when visiting your booth or attending your workshops?
The booth will be focused on the dissemination of the results of the project. Attendees will be able to check out promotional materials, activities, results and technologies. At the booth, it will also be possible to watch videos of the project and talk to one of the project communicators.
