Meet the EGI2026 Exhibitors: Cubbit

Get to know the exhibitors at EGI2026 in this series of interviews, and meet us in Ghent, Belgium from 21-25 September 2026! Today, we spotlight Cubbit and their shared booth.
The first geo-distributed S3 cloud storage enabler
Can you explain what Cubbit is?
Cubbit is the first geo-distributed S3 cloud storage enabler.
It offers a 100% European, S3-compatible cloud storage technology that guarantees maximum resilience against ransomware and disasters, full data control, and up to 80% savings compared to hyperscalers — with no hidden fees.
Unlike traditional cloud storage, Cubbit doesn’t rely on a few centralised data centres. Instead, data is encrypted, fragmented, and replicated across multiple locations. As a result, no file is ever exposed in full, and all remain accessible — even in the event of a cyberattack or outage.
In a context where technology is increasingly exposed to tariffs, sanctions, and international tensions — and where access to data represents the real strategic and productive asset of companies — Cubbit offers a European alternative to manage and control data. Its technology allows organisations to choose where to store their data (in their own country or within a defined geographic perimeter), avoiding dependence on providers who, from one day to the next, could change prices, conditions, or suspend services in a country.
Today, Cubbit technology is adopted by 400+ European enterprises and partners, including Consortium GARR and Leonardo (world leader in defence and cybersecurity).
What is the relationship with EGI?
Cubbit partnered with GARR in Italy and took part in TNC26 last June in Helsinky. Our partnership with EGI is brand new — and one we're looking forward to building on.
Why do you think it’s important to be at EGI2026?
Research data is doubling, regulation is tightening, and dependence on non-European hyperscalers carries growing strategic risk. Universities, NRENs, and research institutions need infrastructure that keeps scientific data sovereign, resilient, and within reach — without rewriting the workflows that already work.
Cubbit's software-defined object storage lets service providers, enterprises, and public institutions spin up their own S3-compatible cloud storage in minutes, fully adaptable to each organisation's infrastructure strategy. Data is encrypted, fragmented, and replicated across multiple sites — never exposed in full, always available even if a site fails — with zero-knowledge encryption and up to 80% savings versus hyperscalers.
For NREN and the R&E community, this means a single sovereign storage layer certified by central IT, with granular spaces delegated to departments and researchers — compliant with GDPR, NIS2, ISO 27001, and national frameworks by default.
What can people expect when they come to your booth?
A live look at Cubbit in action. We'll show how to stand up an S3-compatible sovereign cloud in minutes and talk through what encrypted, fragmented, and replicated storage means for NIS2 compliance and ransomware resilience. Bring your questions, our team will map Cubbit to your setup on the spot.
Can delegates see your organisation in other sessions/demonstrations/workshops/posters?
Yes, catch Cubbit's pitch during the plenary session. You'll also find the team at our booth throughout the event for demos and one-to-one conversations.
