Research IT. Reimagined.
Can you explain what Globus is?
Globus is a mission-driven organization dedicated to enabling discovery by delivering advanced data management and computation capabilities to researchers worldwide. As a unit within The University of Chicago, Globus develops and operates commercial-quality, software-as-a-service used by thousands of institutions, including research universities, national laboratories, government agencies, and commercial research organizations. Globus allows researchers to reliably move data among diverse storage systems, securely share data with collaborators, automate research workflows, and access distributed computing resources via a unified interface. Core features are free for non-profit researchers, and the Globus service is sustained through institutional subscriptions that unlock advanced features for organizations needing greater control, compliance support, and deeper integration with their research computing environment. This model reflects the organization’s core commitment: making secure, reliable cyberinfrastructure services accessible to the broadest possible research community.
What is the relationship with EGI?
We are collaborating to provide the Globus services to EU research institutions.
Why do you think it’s important to be at EGI2026?
It is a gathering of those responsible for managing research cyberinfrastrcture, and that is what Globus provides.
What can people expect when they come to your booth?
A conversation about the state of their research cyberinfrastructure and the needs of their researchers.
Can delegates see your organisation in other sessions/demonstrations/workshops/posters?
I will be hosting a open discussion on how Globus can better serve the EU research community during a session on 23 September, titled: "A Dialogue on Adapting Globus for the EU Research Community"
